Have you ever had to dial a number on a land line phone? When you press a button on the phone to make an outbound call, the phone starts ringing afterwards. You automatically expect someone either to answer the phone or for the voicemail to come on. The pressing of the button on a phone triggers a call to take place after the complete number has been entered. The pressing took an effort on someone’s behalf.
The Story of the woman with the issue of blood:
Let’s reference the verse in the Bible (Luke 8: 40-48 KJV) that speaks of the woman with the issue of blood for 12 years. She was considered unclean to people near and far. The same day that Jairus daughter had gotten sick was the same day that this woman had her encounter with Jesus. Jesus was surrounded by a crowd of people, and this woman was fighting the crowd to come up behind Jesus touching the hymn of his garment. Jesus felt virtue leave his body and was so shocked that he asked who touched him. Her pressing is what led to her blessing. She immediately said she was healed! She was very deliberate about her healing and ignored the setting she was in. She was unbothered by who was watching her encounter with Jesus.
The Touch:
There was an expectation for God to move in this woman’s life. Her mind was made up that she would receive her healing. Her touching Jesus was like pressing that phone number; it triggered a response from Him. All the money she had spent running from doctor to doctor did not measure up to running to the feet of Doctor Jesus. Her faith coupled with boldness and willingness to reach out is what brought about her healing.
The Sacrifice:
Her sacrifice to move despite possibly being shamed, embarrassed, or put down by others drove her to press harder. It is possible that if this woman did not give it her all on that day; we possibly wouldn’t even know who she was. However, it took her laying down everything that set her back to come into a state of complete healing and wholeness.
